    Whereas the City of North Bay recognizes the important social, environmental and economic value of healthy watersheds to our residents, visitors, businesses and eco-tourists;
    And Whereas the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority is a community-based, environmental organization which has been providing leadership in watershed management to the City of North Bay and our neighbouring municipalities since 1972; 
    And Whereas the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority plays a crucial role supporting science-based decision making in watershed planning, development, resource management, flood forecasting, drinking water source protection, water quality monitoring, conservation land management, stewardship and education; and
    And Whereas the City of North Bay recognizes, appreciates and values the expertise, advice and leadership of the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority in balancing human needs with the needs of the natural environment on a watershed basis; 
    And Whereas the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority recognizes that protecting and conserving our watershed relies on collaboration and cooperation with individuals, organizations, and communities and is celebrating its 50th anniversary by recognizing others who are “watershed heroes”.
    Now Therefore Be It Resolved that in honour of the 50th Anniversary of the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority and NBMCA’s contributions to the social, economic and environmental well-being of the City of North Bay, Mayor McDonald and Council do hereby proclaim May as North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority 50th Anniversary Celebration Month.

    Whereas there is a historic Jewish population in the City of North Bay;
    And Whereas the Jewish population of the City of North Bay reflects the rich and varied history of the Jewish people comprising a population tracing its origins to many different parts of the world and embracing the many different traditions and practices within Judaism;
    And Whereas Statistics Canada notes that the Jewish population in the country is approximately 400,000 people, more than 1% of the total Canadian population, making it the fourth-largest Jewish population in the world;
    And Whereas the Jewish community has a long and proud history in Canada and has made significant contributions to the wellbeing, growth and prosperity of Canada while overcoming tremendous obstacles;
    And Whereas Jews have excelled in a wide range of endeavours including the arts, sciences, the law, architecture, media, finance, entertainment and business significantly contributing to Canadian life;
    And Whereas the month of May is meaningful for the Jewish community around the world;
    And Whereas in 2018 Parliament adopted Bill S-232 "An Act respecting Canadian Jewish Heritage Month" designating the month of May as Canadian Jewish Heritage Month thereby recognizing the important contributions that Jewish Canadians have made to Canada’s social, economic, political, and cultural fabric;
    And Whereas Parliament declared that the Canadian Jewish Heritage Month would provide an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about the inspirational role that Jewish Canadians have played and continue to play in communities across the country;
    And Whereas B’nai B’rith a Jewish human rights organization that has been active nationally in Canada since 1875, has invited municipalities to enhance Parliament’s declaration of the Canadian Jewish Heritage Month by adopting their own motions and promoting the celebration of the heritage month within their territory each May.
    Therefore Be It Resolved that The Council of the City of North Bay declare that commencing May 2022 and every month of May thereafter be celebrated as Jewish Heritage Month in the municipality.
